~ Message from the Board

The St. Patrick's Day events were a big success. Special thanks goes to those members that worked to put all the pieces together.  The Irish Flag Ceremony was held in the Capitol rotunda on March 12 at noon. The program started with the always impressive ZOR Shrine Pipes & Drums playing Irish tunes.  They were followed by the award-winning Cashel Dennehy Irish Dancers. Sheriff Dave Mahoney was guest speaker. The 2017 Irish Couple of the Year, Stephanie and Larry Lowden were introduced by Cheryl Sullivan who was the event's Master of Ceremony.  The event closed with the playing of the Irish National Anthem, "A Soldiers Song," while the Irish flag was unfurled by Patrick and Michel McGettigan from the upper level.  The ceremony closed with the playing of "Ireland's Call."

The St. Patrick's Day Parade stepped off at 1:30 with 75 entrants.  The Shamrock Club Banner was carried by John and Dee Boyle.  They were followed by club members walking around the Square throwing candy, beads, etc.  Bill Kinney drove the car which carried the Irish Couple of the Year, Stephanie and Larry Lowden.

The St. Patrick's Day Dinner was held on March 19 at the Coliseum Bar.  A social hour began at noon and dinner was served at 1:00 pm.  Carole Kinney led the blessing.  Music was provided by Josh Perkins and Daithi Wolfe.  Cheryl Sullivan introduced the Irish Couple of the Year.    The raffle was held as a club fundraiser with Patrick and Michel McGettigan in charge.  Prizes were donated by Party Port Liquors, Carol Brunet, Susan Grady, Paul Buckalew, Stephanie & Larry Lowden, Pat & Harry McCarthy, Maureen McDermott, Michel & Patrick McGettigan, Irene Reese, Ann Walsh and Jeri Walsh.  Monies raised went to the club’s general fund.

The food donated at the dinner was given to St. Vincent’s Food Pantry.  Special thanks to all those who donated prizes and food and those who gave their time and efforts to make these events a success.

The Date for the club picnic was announced and it is scheduled for Tuesday, July 11 at McKee Farms Park Shelter. So, please mark your calendars!   It will be a potluck with the club furnishing sandwiches and drinks. Beer and Wine are permitted on a "Bring Your Own" basis.
